The construction of a plastic container mould typically involves high-grade tool steel or aluminum, materials chosen for their durability, thermal conductivity, and resistance to wear. The cavity and core of the plastic container mould are precision-machined using CNC equipment to create the negative impression of the container design. Within the plastic container mould, a network of channels called runners guides molten plastic to the cavity. The quality of the machining directly impacts the surface finish of containers produced by the plastic container mould and significantly influences manufacturing cycle times and product quality.

The injection molding process using a plastic container mould begins with closing and clamping the two halves together under substantial pressure. Molten plastic material is then injected under high pressure into the plastic container mould cavity through a sprue bushing. The plastic fills the cavity of the plastic container mould, taking its shape precisely while pushing air out through strategically placed vents. After a predetermined cooling period, the plastic container mould opens, and ejection systems push the newly formed container out of the cavity. Different plastic container mould designs accommodate various container styles and applications. A standard plastic container mould might produce simple food storage containers, while more complex designs can create containers with integrated hinges, locking mechanisms, or specialized closures. Some plastic container mould configurations include multiple cavities, allowing several containers to be produced simultaneously. The versatility of the plastic container mould makes it possible to manufacture products ranging from household food containers to industrial chemical vessels with consistent quality and dimensional accuracy across production runs.
